I got that from some fresh customs last year. Nasty and chemical tasting. Pulled one out over the holiday and was happy that it had gone away and presented a wonderful vanilla and citrus note in its place. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve had good luck with the ole epi2. I like them with at least 5 years though. A few under filled over the years but it’s like old reliable for me. Aside from some horrible cigars in 1999/early 2000s I’ve been really lucky (maybe less refined palate) but hardly any plugged cigars or total duds across thousands of habanos smoke over 25 years. Regarding maple, I’ve been a Brazilian rosewood snob my entire guitar obsessing career but recently had my eyes opened to maple. I always thought of it more as an archtop wood but I’ve been loving my recent Murphy Lab maple SJ200. Warm, crisp and loud, I’m a maple lover now! These Murphy Lab guitars are aged (finish checked, fretboard edges rolled etc) which is a whole other debate but I am very happy with it. Sounds like an old Gibson with the torrified top and I’m convinced the thin, cracked finish contributes to a looser, more vintage tone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Neil Young solo at the Tower in Philly. I was a huge Neil fan and Harvest Moon hadn’t been released yet. He played almost all (if not all) of Harvest Moon, then ended with a few hits. We basically heard the new album for the first time, live. My buddy was unhappy we didn’t hear more hits! Neil at the height of his powers playing all new tunes, yes please. I also am a huge fan of the MTV unplugged performances. Alice In Chains is my #1, the Nutshell from unplugged is a perfect performance. Gut wrenching yet beautiful, what a voice. Wow is that an apprentice of Wayne’s? Dude is a legend. Getting one of his guitars is next to impossible unless you find one used. I know a guy who has been on his list for over a decade and still no guitar. You basically need to have something he wants in trade like a vintage shotgun. There are a few FS at dreamguitars.com, all over 50k US. Wayne probably sold them to the original owners for 4k or less. One other brand to seriously consider is Pre-War guitar company. I have a Brazilian/Adirondack 000-28 that kills and it’s only 8 months old, just beginning to open up. I’ve been through many, many over the years and was a high end dealer for about 10 years. I sold one last year that funded a full year of my son’s college tuition, it was a to die for Martin OM45 replica built by a very in demand luthier. To ease the pain of that sale, I bought a Gibson custom shop Historic SJ-200 that I really love at 1/12 the cost of the OM45 replica. I would highly recommend something from the Gibson custom shop Historic line or the Martin Authentic line. I’ve been a hand built solo luthier snob but have really been impressed by guitars from these two lines. Both use traditional build techniques like hot hide glue and have torrefied tops which give the tone a more vintage flavor. Might seem excessive for a casual player but I say you only live once and kicking back with a great guitar is one of life’s great pleasures. If those are too far out of budget, Iris guitars are great bang for the buck instruments. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I never got into dry boxing but keep my on-deck humidor at 62%. I do occasionally pull out a stick from my aging stock (at 65%) to smoke and find I sometimes get wrappers cracking, like the wrapper is a bit dryer than the inside of the cigar. Wouldn’t dry boxing cause this as the cigar loses moisture from the outside first? I usually dunk cigars before smoking but don’t with the ones I pull from 65%, probably should since this seems to help with splitting wrappers. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
