  1. The CR allows you to customize the smoking experience, as long as the roller can do exactly what you ask him and you're not forced to smoke what is imposed as a rule of a brand. When you talk about cigars produced directly on farms where the raw material is produced, then you can say you're enjoying a unique experience, smoking a cigars made with 100% raw material of a single plantation, and that makes you can accurately assess the quality of the raw material in the planting occurs. If we talk about big name of MaterRollers who do CR can not forget Cueto, La China, Juanita, Yolanda, Reinaldo and two who are no longer, Hamlet, who now works for Rocky Patel in USA, and the late Enrique Mons, a giant of cigars CR immortalized by his personal version of Lonsdale, which is known as Monsdale.
  2. IMHO if you're someone who smokes Cuban cigars and has never drank rum, I would begin by a Cuban light rum, perhaps with something that was not very old and allow you to appreciate the particularities of this type of distillate.
  3. Yesterday, great pairing between this Cuban rum Cubay Extra Old and this H.U Magnum 56 LE. Delicious blend of flavors in this pairing out of the ordinary.
  4. An excellent rum certainly, but different from the examples you put, HC SDM and Santiago 12. Edmundo 15 is the little brother of Edmundo 25, a mythical distilled in the history of Cuban rum, 15 does not reach the quality of this but it is a high quality rum worth having; outstanding with Partagás
  5. Isla del Tesoro is a certainly mythical product within the great Cuban rums, let me provide some data on it. The reserves from which comes this rum, whose production started in 1964/65, are very pre-1959, belong to the collection of rums that the firm Bacardi preserved in what was the ship's aging of its main distillery, in the city of Santiago de Cuba, aging cellar known by the name of Don Pancho, and called the Cathedral of the Cuban light rum for the impressive quality of extra aged rums that there in are preserved until today. This distillery began its work in 1862, year also of the birth of the Cuban light rum, invention of Don Facundo Bacardi and a group of Cuban rum masters. Isla del Tesoro is a product that was designed exclusively for gifts of high level of the Government, from the year 1964 or 65, date in which the first bottles are made. The product is a rums selection of certainly impressive quality and very advanced age, prior to 1959 as I said, being a blend of rums from great value representing more orthodox and classical school of the Cuban light rum, which Santiago de Cuba is the original cradle. For 50 years it was a product solely on gift, there was no way to buy it, forming part of the basket of Christmas that the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, sent to great personalities around the world. Obviously its extraordinary quality, the antiquity of the rums that make up the original mix and the fact that could not be bought, made him a legendary product that was by word of mouth of the privileged few who could consume it, and settled in the ideology of the drinkers of rum, as the reference point when talking about those things with which one dreams , but do not have. A few years ago the Corporation Cubaron S.A maximum authority of the Cuban light rum industry, decided, obviously with the authorization of the Government of the country, make a very limited commercial production of this product, which was already presented and are available for import and sale in different markets. I have to say that the original aged bases that gave rise to the Isla del Tesoro, were retained in part, which has enabled that production be maintained over time and can now be appreciated by lovers of the Cuban light rum. Many things have been said about this product, which if was the favourite rum from Fidel Castro, that if he drank it in his office and gave it to the personalities they visited him, if it is superior to the Edmundo Dantes 25 or the great vintage of Santiago de Cuba, there are many anecdotes on this rum, they could write many paragraphs above all what has been said at the level public or private of this product, but I do not think that I should be the person to do that, that is work of the great masters of Cuban light rum when they decide to tell that part of the history of so delicious product. It has no sense to compare a rum like that with other productions, are different concepts as well as other spirits that have been made in Cuba especially for high level gift of the Cuban State, are the quality of Cuban rum summit, which for more than 150 years is unavoidable when speaking of light rum in the world. For those interested, I leave a photo of the official image of the product. I apologize for my mistakes in the English language.
  6. As you said, is a subjective opinion, my opinion, I think the difference with others is that I was very well what I mean, since for reasons of work I know perfectly the quality of all great Cuban reserves, something that the majority of the US consumer can't say. I recommend that if you want to have an objective impression about the properties of the large Cuban rums, buy some bottles of which mention and do a comparative tasting of these with products that you like, so can have a clear and exact idea about what you think of them. In terms of prices, certainly some Cuban reserves are very expensive, just when one is given the luxury of taste some of the best rums in the world, which are made in Cuba, in very limited editions, one accepts that it will pay a high price for a luxury that is not within the reach of everyone. I have long been seeing what pay in the world by some bottles of wine, cognac, whisky and some more distillate, and accept that the unique and undeniable quality comes at a high price, therefore I understand that someone wants to take a bottle of Santiago de Cuba 25 years, must pay what it costs, just like if you decide to buy a bottle of Maximo, Siglo y Medio or La Isla del Tesoro. Obviously I know all the tastings notes of all the great Cuban rums in this moment, but I prefer what each discover their properties if same and make a personal assessment of what appear to this.
  7. Ufff...long time ago, Partagás 8.9.8 in 1991.
  8. They are two completely different spirits, they have nothing to do with the other. Although he has only a year's difference in the aging of the youngest of the rums that integrate both products, there is no comparison between them, because their organoleptic qualities are different, starting from the point that are two products of exceptional quality, but with a different profile of aging and final evolution.
  9. As you said, he prefers heavy rums, which are all the opposite of what Cuba manufactures, since the classic standard used in my country, light rum, is unmatched with other styles which are often seen in the markets. If you prefer El Dorado, Zacapa, or any Demerara, seems a very good choice, but a Santiago de Cuba 11 years, does not envy anything to those brands, and I speak of the 11 years that is not the top of range, it's not necessary to get up there. Zacapa XO face to face with a Santiago de Cuba 25 years, tasting blind, would be more than one surprise. About Máximo there is no need to talk, sincerely i believe it is beyond what any one besides Cuba, can make. I could talk about other things, maybe Siglo y Medio, a reserve from another world, Isla del Tesoro, or any other reserve that made exist in Cuba, but we could leave it for another time.
  10. It seems to me that it is time to order another humidor cabinet like that.
  11. And I think that many Cuban rums are much better than many other not Cubans who enjoy a lot of Fame and recognition, especially in the North American market, which let's be honest, is that less known qualities of what comes out of Cuba. If the US consumer, have access to the best Cuban reserves, would realize that there is a very large world to discover in the island for anyone who loves the rum, but we all know that by now, that is not possible.
