Your "Closer" cigar .....
john007 replied to El Presidente's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
For me it’s got to be a Punch DC. Way to consistent, always a great draw and great flavor. -
No time like the present...
john007 replied to Habana Mike's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
This thread inspired me to light up a LGC MDO no.2. I’m down to less than 10 from a 2013 box. I’ve seen these going for stupid prices lately. Really glad I have this cigar to enjoy.- 911 replies

Wedding cigar suggestions
john007 replied to Dmpotocek's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
In my expirenece, 99.9% of guests that partake in a cigar will no way make it through a robusto size stick. I would stick to PC size sticks or the like; maybe skinny and long. Pl montecarlos come to mind bolivar PCs RASCC H upman half coronas and tbh a great value anything from vegueros why spend top dollar on something people will light up and 15min later toss. I put out big sticks at my wedding and it was a waste. Not a waste as people enjoyed the expirence, but I could have gone another route and people would have enjoyed themselves all the same. -
Impressive. Lol.

La Escepcion Don José Regional Italia 2015
john007 replied to oliverdst's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
This release was one that really disappointed me, was so far off from the first release. Talk about a elegant cigar, the Don falls way short imho. -
I remember see these back in like 2011 and thinking one day I'll get a box. Shame that they are no longer in production (25 count) I love the New Years idea some of you have mentioned. I think that could be a really cool tradition, and you can see how things develop on a yearly basis. I've also heard of botl smoking them during the super bowl every year.

Are they back or is this BS
john007 replied to Mattb82's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
I love the BHK, I don't care what leaf they put into it. It taste good to me and that's really all that matters. Now with with regards to price, at the end of the day if you spend 5 dollars or a hundred on a cigar it all just goes up in smoke. -
I will definitely check it out.

When your friend knows nothing about cigars...
john007 replied to Bohn007's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
I used to get so excited to share something I enjoy so much with my friends. I would run to my humidor and pull out cigars I lived so much, monte 2, BBF, psd4, ect. That was until almost always they would smash the cigar out at lee than half way through. Once I learned I would always pass out my NC stock I had left over, until that was gone. but still if it's someone who really wants to get into the hobby, they will not leave empty handed. I'll also share nice cigars with them, as they take the time to learn. It depends on the occasion really, if I have a bunch of friends over for say UFC most want to have a cigar because others are, not really because they want to get into the hobby. -
Need Advice on purchase to be made in Havana
john007 replied to Saxman's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
As with any country in the financial predicament Cuba is in, anything can be done at a cost. It's always good to have connections, good luck with your trip. If I were to find myself in Cuba, custom rolled cigars are all I would be after. -
New source...should I freeze them?

New source...should I freeze them?
john007 replied to Jimmy_jack's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
I never freeze, probably never will. I did once many years ago. Didn't seem worth the effort, and it felt wrong to do it. My freezer smells funny idk. I keep the gars in a temperature controlled environment under 70 degrees Fahrenheit that gives me piece of mind. But at the same time I get why people do it. I guess I'm just too lazy. -
I'd have to say I have t had one I liked, and actually traded a bunch away. Could have just been a bad batch though, as I purchased them sight unseen. I've heard some really great things about them though, CA game them a great rating awhile back whatever that's worth. And suckling just game them a 90 something recently. im kind of all over the place, not much help in the end I guess.

Thanks for all the input guys. I've been at this cigar thing for about 8 years. 6 of those years have all been cc. I'd like to think I have a good stash going, probably around 500 cigars give or take. About a year ago I got really into chasing regional cigars for some reason (Instagram). And what I've learned from this is, regional cigars are a gimmick most of the time and I do t like to waste money on them anymore. Are some amazing and I'm glad I have them... Hell yes, especially the 2 slbs of Ramon allones ciestiales finos I've gone through, or the Canadian Vegas I am starting to love. But then there are the britanicas or the Swiss perfectos that don't come close. I paid like 30 dollars a stick for those bolivars... Crazy. My point being, I'm focusing solely on regular production from here on. Not forever and im not going to say if something pops up I have to have that I won't change my mind on a whim. Basically I can focus my money on building a great collection for the future but I'm not sure what I will really like with age. So I think I will do as some suggested and try some aged cigars here and there and focus on aging my own.

I have found people either love them, or don't really see what the fuss is all about. Personally I have yet to have one that knocked me off my feet. I have smoked around 30 something of them, currently working on a box from 2011 that is grossly under filled. For the price I find there are way way way better options. My fav is rass, followed by Juan Lopez no2, and then the epi no. 2. I recently purchased a cab of Juan Lopez no. 2 from 2010, from a 24/24 about 2 months ago that are smoking incredibly well. You can get a 50 can of Ramon Allones Specially Selected for around the same price as a 25 cab of CoRos kind of a no brainier to me.

I'm curious how everyone feels about purchasing aged stock. While I try and stay away from it mostly because of price. As with anything I'm sure it's hit and miss, but does anyone have any stories about their expirences.

Active humidification system
john007 replied to IcedCanuck's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Piggy you are too good to us. I really appreciate all the info. As someone who used to constantly have humidity problems it's great to have such a vast amount of knollwdge at my finger tips. I have definitely found ambient temp has so much to do with humidity. I used to keep my wineadore in an uncontrolled inviorment where the temp would rise into the high 80s, and I was always getting mold, then I'd run my wine Colleen (thermoelectric) and it would always kill the humidity. Since then we have moved, and fortunately I have a temperature controlled mud room where I keep my cigars. Things have been so much better since. Still I am always looking to improve what I have. i really like the Bluetooth one where I can check on my phone, I will be purchasing them today. -
Active humidification system
john007 replied to IcedCanuck's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Mr Piggy, could you please recommend an accurate hygrometer please. I can never seem to find one worth a damn. Also if love to hear your thoughts on bovada packs, as I use them with an active system in my wineadore. -
I'm looking into picking up a box of double coronas, I've never owned a box. And have maybe smoked a few, actually only one I can remember. A 2001 punch DC that had zero flavor, cardboard is how I would describe it. since it looks like things won't be getting better with wrapper leaf now is the time to get a box. If you guys could give some recommendations on what is smoking good, and what isn't worth my money or time. I would greatly appreciate it.

Im curious what you guys have to say about these. Got a box a few years ago, it really turned the corner at about 2 years in. Now I'm thinking about picking up another box, but I'm not sure.

Love the cigar, love the post. Very cool to see them like that. They all look so good. Haven't had a monte 2 I like over the dip 2 in some time maybe since 2010
