I remember the first review we did on the Ramon Allones Celestiales Finos. All brute force nd no finesse....but there was something there, something that made me comment 3-5 years and they should be absolute crackers.

This year we will be at the 5 year mark and time to put the acid on my comments back then.

From a personal perspective, I love them. There must be a few others out there that do as well given that PCC has declared none remain (at least to their distribution network).

There is something about the feel of this cigar in the hand that is wonderfully tactile. For lovers of Corona Gorda's, Robusto's, Belicoso's ....it transcends the best aspect of each of these vitola's.

There were a few construction issues on these but nothing more significant than any other. Quality/consistency across the release was better than most. Upon release they were al over the place in terms of strength and intensity. Some just unsmokeable due to the nicotine level while others a shade over medium bodied. At three years they started to even out even developing some fruitiness. At 5 years (I have havd 4 over the Christmas break) they were balancing out even more. Medium to medium full, RA fruit notes at their best. Reminded me very much of the great Ramon Allones Gigantes profile from the late 90's but fuller.

All in all I mark them as a success. an excellent cigar done well and I look forward to seeing their future development over the next few years. This is not a cigar I have any real fears of going backwards in the short term.

Your thoughts?

Be right back..... I'm going to go and smoke one,,,,

I've got a box and a few singles left

The last one I had (a little over 12 months ago) still had a few rough edges but there was a point in the cigar where I was hit with this intense dried/stewed fruit note that I love Ramon Allones for. I only last 3 or 4 puffs and then was gone. I hope more time bringsit back as it was exceptional

I love the size and would love it if it was a regular production vitola

I'll smoke one in the next few days and report back

My thoughts are I wish I could find some, as I have heard great things and the flavor profile is up my alley. I've looked high and low for them all over the Internet, but like you said, they're completely out of the distribution chain so it's all on trades and private sales now. Or maybe one day you'll have some from OLH buyback. peace.gif

I only have about 8 left from my box, mine were more approachable than the example Rob smoked in the initial review and they had a beautiful intensity to them that I just loved, of the 17 most were good, some were duds and a couple were brutally nicotine laden. Last one I smoked in the spring of last year I remember the edges had smoothed quite a bit, I remember thinking where did the balls of this cigar go but in it's place was a very rich stewed fruit that Rob mentioned above, That lasted for about 3/4 of the cigar then it turned a little harsh, still letting me know it had some more melding to do. I look forward to trying one in a couple months when the weather warms and seeing how they are developing.

I love mine, and if anyone is looking to get rid of a box I need another pm me. These are easily in my top 5 cigars I have ever smoked.

Love them. They're not as strong as they used to be but the flavours are very distinct and rich. I look forward to each one I smoke and get bummed out that I'll eventually run out. But until then. I'm going to savor each and every one. FWIW. The RA Petit Unicos (Canada RE) are very similar in taste, minus the strength. Try one to compare if you can.

Two words: Absolutely stellar!

Had one a week ago. Like you say, true RA fruit in all its glory. I never tried any when they were released but the one I had was bang on medium. Both examples I've had have been more snug on the draw than I'd usually like but opened up in the second third, no doubt due to the shape.

Also have been on the lookout for a box. Down to my last dozen.

Habanos. Make this or the Superiores regular production for crying out loud.

I also forgot to mention like others I love the size. Wish every line had this as a reg production size.

well ... this is good news indeed ... I will not be breaking another box any time soon ... but this thread bodes well for the future .

for what its worth ... of the ones I smoked (a few years ago ) ... I found none were too strong for me ... strong yes but not too strong .

Outstanding cigars - smoked a whole box and more... Almost a full box left.

Didn't like them then, didn't like my last one about 8 months ago.

Shlomo is there a reason why? too bitter...too strong...poor construction...not to your taste?

First couple were just too wet. They burned unevenly and had very bitter tastes. Let them rest for 6 months or so and I remember the wetness was gone, but that bitter harshness was still there.

Every one I have had tasted more like an NC (XxX for example) than having any of the relaxing nature of a CC. I always think how I cannot relax and kick back with this cigar, rather I have to pay attention to it and while sometimes that is a good thing, in this case every cigar just tasted like rolled tobacco. Nothing else. The harshness and bitterness, while certainly less, was still very present in the first quarter and last bit of the cigar.

Fair enough.

I have a single remaining buried deep...had one about a year ago and it was probably the strongest (nicotine wise) CC I have ever smoked. Loved the boldness but should be a bit more rounded out now.

I'm pretty bummed because I really wanted a box, but it slipped through and now they're very hard to find.

This thread is doing nothing to quell my desire for a couple of these things. Grrrrr.

I have a box. Mine are still very strong but there is some cream & fruit aspects but plenty of pepper.

Agree with all regarding the feel in the hand. Great

Interestingly enough, the first few I had out of an STA Jun box were not strong. In fact, I thought they were pretty bland.

The last one I smoked in early October of last year had really come around to a flavorful, balanced smoke.

I've always enjoyed them after the 2 - 3 year mark. However the last one I had in November looked like they went back in time. Nicotine bomb and rough around the edges. I'll try another one when it hits its 5 year anniversary (have ti check my box code).

Funny you should bring these up. I have been smoking them over the holiday season and really enjoy them. I too find them to have mellowed out and are smoking well. There is the occasional construction issue of uneven burn but that being said.

I do understand what Shlomo is talking about. But I liken these to older opus to some degree (pre 2006) and find they are just the tonic when I want something of that nature.

They go so well with a small batch bourbon. hungry.gifdrool.gif I am sooo glad I loaded up on these. thumbsup.gif
