pedromendes Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 I have joined my Canadian brother Tarks with my very own winter herf shack. I looked at the calendar and 3 or 4 months of frigid winter with no cigar options and decided to take matters into my own hands. Got a 6 man ice fishing tent and have a propane heater on the way, plus a duct fan to take care of exhaust. Did a test run this week with a couple of friends and it was AWESOME. First dude who showed up said in awe "Dude, you have a fort!" Totally feels like a cross between a cigar lounge and the Swamp from M.A.S.H. And for the record, I broke it in with a Montecristo Grand Edmundo EL, that was beyond fantastic, one of the best cigars of the year for me.

brassie00 Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Nice looking layout for a Canadian winter DonPedro
Tarks Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Sweet setup there! I hope you have better success with the fan than I did. I am curious to see how you set it up. Please update once you get it going.
Squarehead Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Clever set up.Lucky me, I can smoke in the house.
ajgagnon Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Brilliant. I've heard of people buying sea cans to do the same thing. It's amazing what we'll do and still choose to live here!
TWalker Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 That's awesome! I usually just lay out in the back yard rolled up in an old shag carpet. j/k... nobody has shag anymore...
ckearns Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Nice set-up, Pedro. Looks like a very pleasant spot to enjoy a cigar. Cheers.
riazp Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Cool Setup Pedro! make me want to pitch a tent on my balcony and put a heater in there! Lucky for me in Montreal we have cigar bars that we can smoke inside
kiwiman911 Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 sweet set up hope you come to montreal for the winter herf, you can show us more pic and give us and uptade on how it's working out
tempbond Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Dude, fantastic idea ! How much did it cost you to set the whole thing up ? I've been bugging my wife to build myself a mini smoke lounge in the basement especially for winter (and rainy days...), but if this turns out to be cheaper to set up AND is outside the house, maybe I'll convince her Just one thing, are you able to breathe in there ?
Puros Y Vino Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Pedro, that is awesome! I never even thought of an ice fishing tent. I'd be interested in how warm it is when the snow and cold really set in. And that second shot totally reminded me of "The Swamp" that alone makes it worthwhile.
pedromendes Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 Dude, fantastic idea ! Cost was pretty reasonable. The tent is $300, the heater will be about $100 and the fan is $30. I didn't have a proper heater (just a little electric one) or a fan for that first herf and after a few minutes it was nasty in there. Once we'd opened all the windows, it was just fine smoke-wise, but got a bit chilly (was about 2 or 3 degrees that night). The heater I'm getting is capable of 9000 BTUs, so even with a powerful fan, we should be warm enough without choking. After all, the heater was recommended by ice fishermen! I'll be sure to report back when the heater and vent fan are installed!
bolivr Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Way to go! Extreme weather calls for extreme counter measures. Will be interested to see the fine tuning to get warmth versus ventilation. Good job
Murri Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Nice job with that. I just put my gazebo away for the winter so unfortunately I'm done until spring. Winter can sure put a damper on enjoying a good smoke for some of us.
