Dip 2 consistency and future?

Recommended Posts

I've been somewhat disappointed in the lack of consistency in my Monte 2s, even within the same box. Some are great and some are forgettable. The goodness of the good ones does not make up for the disappointment of the not so good ones. Entering the singles scene again, I tried a Dip 2 last night and fell in love. Smitten, I have concluded that I have found my new go-to Piramide. For those of you who have been down this road before me, how has the consistency been? Am I likely to be able to count on them to deliver day in, day out? What is the future of the marca, given it is down to one vitola? Thanks!

You should remember your Monte 2s.

If you smoke a box of Dips and the whole box is good, seek out more of that code and hope for the best.

It's still Cuba, and they are still cigars..........

As to the life span of the marca,,,,,,,may depend on how many boxes you can afford.............innocent.gif

I bought a box of 2nds from Prez and they've been stellar. Granted they've sat in my winedor for a few months, but each one has been great.

And might I recommend pairing it with a good red wine blend ala Penfolds Bin 138!

Going from memory, haven't the Diplomáticos No.2's with EML box codes been the most consistent in 2015? I'm looking to sample these at some point in 2016 so I'm interested too in members confirming (or disconfirming) this also.

Try Upmann #2's. Perhaps the best piramide according to many. I have a LUB14 box and they are very good.

My favorite piramide is the HU2. I find they are very consistent. Im fairly sure Ive only seen them made with one factory code the last year LUB. If so then Im happy to purchase a blend made in one factory and not several.

Yes, I've also greatly enjoyed some LUB H. Upmann No. 2's this year.

EML DIp 2 are solidly good. Still even with EML in the Dip 2, there are significant variances in quality within mastercases of Dip 2.

Thank you Rob, your confirmation is very much appreciated!

I hardly ever reach for these. I have a 13 box that have been sitting in the humidor I should try.

You should try them, Dave. Dip 2 are my favorite of the piramides, by far. I know your love of Upmann 2 is strong though, or maybe it is just aged Upmann 2!. I have sampled from 4 different EML 14 boxes, and they have been great.

I've said it before, I doubt Diplomatico is in danger of finding itself on the chopping block anytime soon

Discontinuing the marca would only reduce the pool of brands the RE program can offer its markets

Same can be said for Vegas Robania, LGC, QDO or any other of the smaller Cuban Brands on offer

Production may slow down and be reduced (like what has happened to LGC) but for HSA to completely discontinue the marca would be a bad business decision

Rob, please correct me if i'm wrong

I would love to see them bring back the #1 and #4. Both were great cigars. All good things come to a end suppose. Still love the #2's and continue to stockpile.
