El Presidente Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 We might as well do a "Wetting a Cigar Video" to see if we can reach any conclusions. Couple of questions on the technical aspects for those who know more about this than I. Let's assume a Mareva/Half Corona. Do we smoke one (unwet) completely and then smoke the other (wet). (both from same box) Do we smoke both at the same time side by side. Do we smoke a larger cigar...start unwet...wet the next say 10 mm....go unwet for 10mm...etc. What would be the best format to try and minimise the natural variance that exists between cigars?
Professor Twain Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Glad to see you tackling this issue. Variation between cigars shouldn't be a big deal as long as you have several smokers. How about you get 4 guys--2 start wet then go dry, 2 start dry then go wet. I have to say the idea of wetting down a perfectly good cigar seems absurd but it's time to put it to the test.
riazp Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 what do you mean by wet Rob? like dampening the cigar with water?
ramon_cojones Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 ^nice sig bro LOL give me the dry one to smoke!
riazp Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 ^nice sig bro LOL give me the dry one to smoke! Thanks Mate!
TankerT Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Last time I tried this, she slapped me. I really don't want to end up on the couch... so I'll see what you guys come up with...
AverageJoe83 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I would think to get an accurate comparison, do a control smoke with no water, then do a wet of the same cigars from the same box.
NMJoe Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I'd really like to see a controlled review of this process. I have some HdM Epi 2s that will crack the wrapper if you look at them the wrong way. I'm going to try this technique next time I fire one up to see if I can keep the wrapper intact. They are a great smoke, although ugly, so perhaps this process can rectify my problem. Do it, Rob!
Ryan Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Pres, Yiorgos here tried this a couple of years ago. It seems to have gone well for him. I tried it here and there a few times and didn't really notice a huge difference. Maybe worth a look.. http://cigars.ie/reviews/smoking-a-wet-ramon-allones-small-club-corona/
Smallclub Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I tried it here and there a few times and didn't really notice a huge difference. I'm doing this for years when I smoke near the fireplace in winter. The difference in taste is not significant.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 General opinion seems to be run a cigar under the tap for 2 seconds uncut, foot facing down, then pat off with some paper towel and away you go. I was going to try with a cigr that is generally not great in burn/flavour when young so a coro maybe, or a sig 2? I'd say all from the same box, smoke the dry one completely first then the wet one completely after finishing the first Do we smoke one (unwet) completely and then smoke the other (wet). (both from same box) - that's how I'd do it
Smallclub Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I would go with the "Side by Side" option Sure. If the cigars are smoked successively no one will be able to tell the difference (if any), IMHO.
Puros Y Vino Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I remember in old movies characters would dip a cigar in Sherry before lighting up. That'd be a fun video.
cigcars Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 ??Are you talking about licking it throughout to get it "wet" like that, or actually putting water on it? I'm
Scdalak Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I remember in old movies characters would dip a cigar in Sherry before lighting up. That'd be a fun video. Frank can you at least post a Picture of Sherry to see if shes worth while??
thechenman Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I think a side comparison would be the best way to run a comparison. Likely a petit corona or robusto.
NMJoe Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Frank can you at least post a Picture of Sherry to see if shes worth while?? Lol!!! Perhaps she is related to Monica?
AverageJoe83 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Side by side would provide a skewed end result thus invalidating the entire result.
Cohiba Stevie Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Honestly i can appreciate the experimentation and wish the undertaker the best... But i really dont see the point in this, if cigars were meant to be smoked wet, then this would be a far more normal practice by now. No thanks.
LGC Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 When I tried it out, I wetted my finger with water... then rubbed it up and down the cigar until the entire wrapper was moistened. Then I wrapped the cigar in a dry paper towel for several hours, to allow the moisture to distribute and even out. I did this on an old cigar with a thinner, fragile wrapper. It didn't negatively affect the smoking experience at all, and the wrapper burned perfectly. These are just my observations based off of a single cigar. I'm anxious to see the results based on a controlled experiment. I don't see why folks get their panties in such a wad over this. I think experimenting is fun.
Smallclub Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 if cigars were meant to be smoked wet, then this would be a far more normal practice by now. Many spanish and french veteran smokers were accustomed to wet their cigar with rum or brandy.
semery74 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 1. Each of you smoke your best regular production cigar 2. Wet the entire cigar for a brief period under running water. Don't half arse the job, all or nothing. 3. Smoke the cigar that you love to enjoy. 4. All follow the same technique. And yes Ken must participate.
