El Presidente Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I have never seen those Bruce but if you locate them I would love to know.
Trevor2118 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 » I have never seen those Bruce but if you locate them I would love to know. Have emailed Bruce & he is hot on the trail. They were released in France in 2005 as part of the effort to re-establish this brand, referred to as "La gamme compléte" on the web (French for the complete range...as it stood in 2005). cvm4 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 It looks similar to the Trinidad case that one can find in Switzerland.

broozer Posted August 3, 2007 Author Posted August 3, 2007 » I have never seen those Bruce but if you locate them I would love to know. well, no luck as of yet. if anyone knows an online vender in france please email me with that info. i HAVE to have at least one set of these. bruce
Stalebread Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 ». . . if anyone knows an online vender in france » please email me with that info . . . Althouth I'm not entirely sure, I think you'll have a tough time finding an on-line vendor in France. French law prohibits the mailing of tobacco products so, even though the French vendors may have an on-line presence, they don't have on-line shops.

Stalebread Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I printed out the photo and I'll check some of the shops in Paris. Don't hold your breath, I'm going to be travelling over the next couple of weeks so might not be able to do it until I get back.

Don't » hold your breath, I'm going to be travelling over the next couple of weeks » so might not be able to do it until I get back. Good luck with that: I just checked the French official legislation website where they have the official price lists of all tobacco products sold in France since 2001 and I couldnt find any Quai d'Orsay box with under 20 cigars listed. This will probably be a tough one... I'll try and ask a dealer next time I'm in france, but I wouldnt hold my breath.

So what could that mean? Was the package targeted for a country other than France? It's bogus packaging/cigars? It fell through official cracks and did not make it onto the price list? What?
Tom Bolivar Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Reminds me of the Hoyo case that can be bought here in Switzerland. [link]XXX[/link] Sorry for the long link. I do not now the shop - it is just to illustrate what I meant. Edited: Tom, Sorry, but I have to delete the link as it redirects to another Vendor and the rule state thats a no no. Let me see if I can capture the photo you want people to see, tried but the photo was marked.:-( Tampa
Tampa1257 Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I have seen the Trinidad and the Vegas Robaina set like that, the Robaina was released in Germany and the Trinidad was released in Switzerland. I had not personally seen the Hoyo or the QdO before, nor heard of them.
Claudius Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 » I have seen the Trinidad and the Vegas Robaina set like that, the Robaina » was released in Germany and the Trinidad was released in Switzerland. No, the Robaina was released in Switzerland. Case of 5 cigars. I've got one of them (bought in Switzerland). Regarding the link, you could just take a screenshot...
Claudius Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Here's the set of 5 I'm talking about (Don Alejandro was in the shop that day and signed the box for me :-) ).
Tampa1257 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Thank you Claudius for the correct information and photo of the Robaina packaging. The Trinidad presentation looked the same yet with the four vitolas and a cutter. Perhaps it was the 15 box of the 5th Anniversary of the Robaina Margue that was in the German market.
Stalebread Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Where does that leave the QdO pictured in the initial post/link above? (The amount of collective knowledge here is amazing.)

Stalebread Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Took the photo of the Quai d'Orsay presentation box with me this afternoon to a couple of shops in Paris. No one seems to have seen them or know anything about them. Now I'm really curious to see what you can find out, Claudius.

Hmmm... let me think... 1) I could take it to the 2 French dealers I know and ask them 2) I could email the question to the French importer 3) Trevor said this was a French release, but nobody so far has ever heard of it. I see 2 reasons for this: a) Quai d'Orsay is a scarcely distributed brand, not every shop has them or knows about them and the release was probably in very small numbers Trevor remembered it incorrectly and it was a release for another country, hence why nobody in France has heard of it. That being said, IIRC, the Quai d'Orsay brand was a created upon a French initiative, so it is probable that this was indeed a French release rather than any other country. Best would probably be to ask the dealer to contact his guy at the French importer and email them the question (they're unlikely to reply to individuals).
Claudius Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Just saw on ICC that this French guy said these cigars were handed out at an Altadis party in 2004. I know this French cigar journalist (he goes to all the parties), I'll shoot him an email to find out if he's seen those or knows anything about them..

Just got a reply: the guy's father actually created the brand after the President asked him in 1974... anyway, the box was made for a dinner at Hotel Crillon in Paris in 2004 and handed out to the guests, never sold officially. The 2nd band is meant to commemorate the event. I asked him if there is any chance to find such a box; he replied he'd ask around in September when people are back from their holidays. Fingers crossed, Bruce :-)
